One of the most important measures of character any successful corporation can demonstrate is an understanding of their role and responsibility on a much larger scale. The ability to make things better for all of us. It goes well beyond product and service. It’s how we treat our employees, suppliers and customers. It’s how we treat our environment. It’s how we treat each other. Marfrig Group led the world in ensuring none of our raw material comes from any land encroaching the Amazon Rainforest. There are no hormones or artificial enhancements of any kind used on our cattle.

The Marfrig Group is fully aware of its role in the social development of the countries in which it operates. As such, the company contributes with financial resources and human capital to hospitals, charities and social projects. These social investments are benefiting a larger number of people every year.

Marfood USA and our parent company, Marfrig Group take our responsibility to help protect the environment seriously. For this reason, Marfood USA is always finding ways to decrease our energy consumption by training employees to take simple steps such as turning off lights in unused rooms to studying new energy efficient machinery options. Since 2008, we have also decreased the amount of plastic used to make our packages by 30%. In addition, by changing our standard case pack to a smaller sized carton, Marfood decreased the amount of cardboard used by 37%. We are also reviewing recycled material and biodegradable packaging options to further support our sustainability efforts.
In September 2009, Marfrig Group announced that it will not acquire, slaughter or sell cattle originating from the Amazon Biome area that has been deforested since that date, showing its commitment to finding a sustainable development solution for raising cattle. In this regard, it has requested a third party auditor to audit 100% of the cattle acquisitions from that date to corroborate its commitment.
Marfrig Group facilities across the globe have began producing biofuels, which are renewable sources of electrical and heat energy. Marfrig also partnered with the plastic recycling industry to remove the impurities from used plastics, allowing them to be repurposed or recycled. In addition, at several facilities Marfrig has installed treatment systems that convert organic sewage wastes into nutrient rich fertilizer and biofuels. Marfrig is currently developing additional projects, such decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, planting trees and eliminating the use of fossil fuels.
